Safe Sex Isn’t So Safe
Sometimes the gravest of lies are hidden by the grooviest slogans and one of the most relevant for the singles of our era is the warning to “Practice Safe Sex.” Behind the slogan, of course, is condom use but the facts are clear that such sex is anything but safe. About 15% of couples who rely on condoms still get pregnant within the first year of sexual activity. Some guarantee, huh? And what about health safety to the sexual partners themselves? Again, the “safety net” of condom usage proves to be full of holes – literally. Thus, condoms do not eliminate the risk of contracting such diseases as gonorrhea or even HIV. Condoms are even less effective in preventing chlamydia, genital herpes and trichomoniasis. Finally, they offer no protection at all against human papiloma virus – one of America’s most widespread sexual diseases and the one that causes the most of the cervical cancer cases in the country. So should you be trusting your health, and your future to a thin layer of latex rubber? Of course not – get sane, get safe, get solidly committed to a lifestyle of chastity.
